TRACTION DISTRIBUTION

About Electric Traction

Electric traction was introduced in BZA division during the year 1980 in BZA-GDR section.  Subsequently BZA-RYP section was energized in March 1986 as a part of Vijayawada – Ballarshah route electrification.

The work of electrification of Vijayawada (excl.) – Visakhapatnam (incl.) section was started in May 1994 and completed in March 1997.  Later on the section Krishna Canal – Guntur – Nallapadu & Tenali – Guntur was handed over to Guntur Division.  The section Rayanapadu – Kondapalli was annexed from Secunderabad Division to this division during 2006 for operational convenience. The total electrified section of the division is now expanded to 733 route Kms and 1928 Track Kms.  25KV single phase power supply for electric traction is derived from 14 Traction Sub-stations located “en-route” and the earst-while Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board, now APTRANSCO is supplying power at 132KV from their grid to all these Traction Sub-stations.

98.5 % of  Goods traffic   and  89.6 % of Passenger traffic  of the Division is being hauled by Electric Taction

The monthly average electrical consumption towards Electrical Traction is 56.0 million units, billing to `. 37 Crores (approx).
