Role :

                               The Major function of the Commercial department is to generate revenue through the sale of journey tickets to the traveling public. The commercial department also does the booking of parcels offered by the customers for transportation through rail. For customers who wish to transport the goods in large quantities through rail, the commercial department books them through wagon loads and train loads. Redressal of claims and refunds arising out of cancellation of tickets etc., is also the job of the commercial department. Public grievances arising out of unsatisfactory services provided by the Railway and feedback by the customers are registered and redressed by the commercial department. Moreover the commercial department is ever inclined to coordinate with other departments of Railways in order to provide better services to the passengers.

Passenger Amenities available on Secunderabad Division

  • Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS):

             Unreserved Ticketing System has been extended to a total of 117 stations for providing better services to the Passengers and for quick dispensing of tickets. This is an advanced version, which facilitates issue of tickets from any station to any station. This system enables the passengers to avail the benefit of purchasing general tickets three days in advance for the destination beyond 200 kms.

  • Passenger Reservation System (PRS):

          Passenger reservation system facility has been provided at 83 locations over the division, this includes 14 (fourteen) India Post PRS locations viz. Hanamkonda, Jagityal, Siricilla, Secretariat, Yellandu/KMT, Godavarikhani, Satupalli/KMT, Jaggayapet, Bhongir, Siddipet, Aler, Hayathnagar, Bidar and Uppal. Out of 117 UTS locations , at 47 locations reservation facility has been merged with UTS.

  • Janasadharan Ticket Booking Sewaks (JTBS):

With a view to extend the general ticket issuing facility to the door step of rail passengers, JTBS are in operation at 4 (four) locations in Secunderabad, Khammam, Vikarabad and Parlivaijnath stations.

  • Introduction of ATVMs :

            For the convenience of Rail Passengers and commuters user friendly smart card based Automated Ticket Vending Machines are operational at Secunderabad, Hyderabad and 14 MMTS stations.It is proposed to extend the same to all the important stations.

  • National Train Enquiry system (NTES):

         NTES is provided at 5 locations on the division, viz Secunderabad Divisional Control Office, Secunderabad Station Enquiry, Hyderabad Station Enquiry, Kazipet and Warangal Station Enquiry.

  • Inter Active Voice Response System (IVRS):

         Information facilitation through IVRS is outsourced and accessible through 139 (Rail Sampark) for the entire country.

  • Centralized Passenger Enquiry System(CPES):

         A Centralized Passenger enquiry system is operational over Secunderabad division which caters to the enquiries related to train arrivals and departures of the trains over Secunderabad division. The helpline for the service is040-27829999.

  • Passenger Operated Enquiry Terminal (POET) and Touch Screen Enquiry Kiosks :

        To facilitate the passengers to obtain the required information, 73 POETs have been installed at 50 locations over the division. In addition to the POETs installed, Touch Screen Enquiry kiosks are available at Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Begumpet stations over Secunderabad division. 

  • Voice recorded complaint system (VRCS):

        For the convenience of the passenger’s voice recorded complaint system has been provided at ‘A-1’ category stations viz., Secunderabad & Hyderabad, where in passenger can record the complaint in their vernacular language through a telephone provided at the station.

  • Installation of Fare repeater boards :

        For the convenience of the passengers a total of 252 fare repeaters were installed at the UTS / PRS booking counters covering 81 stations / locations over the division.

  • Remote wireless public address system :

        At five halt stations viz. Gandhipuram, Nagulawancha, Odela, Karepur, Ambica Rohina and Wadwal Nagnath halt stations for the convenience of traveling public remote wire less public address system are installed.

  • Installation of surveillance cameras :

        To keep a close watch for any antisocial activities and also for better crowd management surveillance cameras are installed at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kazipet, Warangal, Khammam, Vikarabad and Bidar stations. In addition, in the recent past additional surveillance cameras were installed for adequate coverage of the entire area in and around the Secunderabad station.

  • Retiring rooms : 

        Retiring rooms are available atSecunderabad , Hyderabad, Kazipet , Warangal, Khammam , Bhadrachalam road, Ramagundam , Bellampalli and Parlivaijnath stationsoverSecunderabad division.

        Online booking of Retiring roomsat Secunderabad station will be commissioned withina short period of time.

  • Cool Drinking water : 

        For giving improved services to the customer satisfaction, 96 water coolers were installed with potable water at 43 stations. Among them 20 coolers are high capacity modular chilled water plants.

  • A/C Waiting Halls :

        For the comfort of traveling public air conditioned waiting halls are provided at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kazipet, Warangal and Begumpet stations.

  • GPS based announcement at MMTS stations :

       GPS based announcements are being done at MMTS stations to help the passengers in knowing the correct position of the trains. Moreover new GPS enabled MMTS rakes are being run in which announcements with regard to the arriving station etc., are being done inside the coaches for the convenience of the traveling public.

  • Coach indication & Train information boards:

          In order to give qualitative information to the traveling public, coach indication & train information boards with electronic display have been provided at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Begumpet, Kazipet, Warangal,Khammam, Ramagundam, Manchiryal, Bhadrachalam road, Dornakal, Bidar, Vikarabad, Parli and Tandurstations over the division. In addition to that for the convenience to the traveling passengers VHF based LED destination boards are provided on the exterior of the coaches and GPS based train location indication boards are provided inside the coaches. A 10 line True ColorLED information board at Secunderabad station has been provided on platform No. 10 atBhoiguda side circulating area.

  • Public Grievances :

          All the stations are provided complaint/suggestion books for registering the grievances and feedback of the customers. Apart from the complaint/suggestion books available at stations passengerscan lodge their complaint through SMS on 8121281212. Moreover complaints/suggestions related to Catering services can be made on the catering helpline number 9701370964.

  • Battery Operated Cars/Wheel Chairs :

         For the convenience of the physically challenged and senior citizen passengers , Battery operated carsare available free of costat Secunderabad and Hyderabad Railway stations over Secunderabad division. Wheel chairs are also provided at all stationsover Secunderabad division of which 19 are provided at A-1 category stations, 17 at A category stations, 14 at B category stations , 30 at D category stations and 79 at E category stations.


Highlights/Events of the Current  month

Hon'ble Secretary to Railway Board Inspection:

Hon'ble Secretary to Railway board Shri P.C.Gajbhiye has inspected Secunderabad station and SrDCM/SC's office on 20-09-2014.

Finance Commissioner, Railway Board Inspection:

Finance Commissioner, Railway Board Smt Rashmi Kapoor has inspected SC station on 06-09-2014 in regard to Passenger amenities and cleanliness at station. 


The passenger traffic for the month is 9.95 Million against 9.87 Millions during corresponding month of previous year registering a increase of 0.87 %.

The Total passenger Earnings for the month was 104.70 crores as against Rs. 94.34 crores during corresponding month of previous year registering an increase of 10.99 %.

The UTS passenger traffic for the month is 8.56 Millions as against 8.65 Million during corresponding month of previous year registering a decrease of 1.02 %.

The UTS passenger earnings for the month are Rs. 29.19 crores against Rs. 30.21 crores during corresponding month of previous year registering an increase of 12.68 %.

The PRS passenger traffic for the month is 1.39 Millions as against 1.22 Million during corresponding month of previous year registering a increase of 14.32%.

The PRS passenger earnings for the month are Rs. 75.51 crores against Rs. 64.13 crores during corresponding month of previous year registering a increase of 17.75%.

Online booking of Retiring Rooms :

Online booking of retiring rooms has commenced at 3 station i.e., HYB, WL and PRLI from 25-09-2014.

Pay & Use Toilets:

The Contract for Maintenance of  Pay and Use toilets at KDM station has been awarded in favour of  Shri K.Jayram for  a period of  3 months from 23-06-2014 to 22-09-2014.

Face to Face Enquiry :

The contract for Outsourcing of face to face & Telephonic enquiries , updating/ operation  of CIB,TIB, CGB’s and other allied works pertaining  to passenger announcements and information of SC, HYB, BMT & LPI stations has been awarded in favour of M/s S S Security force and maintenance  service, Hyderabad for a period of one year.


The goods loading for the month is 5.19 Million Tons as against 4.85 Million Tons during this month of 2014 registering a increase of 7.01 %.

The goods earnings for the month was Rs. 339.83 crores as compared to Rs. 308.70 crores during this month of 2014 with an increase of 10.08 % .

During the month, a total of 1431 rakes were loaded compared to 1378 rakes during the corresponding period of last year of different commodities from various locations over SC division.

During the month, a total of 714 rakes as compared to 806 rakes during corresponding period of last year were unloaded at various locations over SC division.

Freight rates have been revised w.e.f 25.06.2014:

An increase of 6.47 % in freight has been introduced.

Minimum chargeable distance has been increased from 100 kms to 125 kms.

Graded concessions on traffic below 100 kms has been withdrawn.

Opening of New Siding:

A new private siding by M/s Vicat Sagar Cement Pvt. Ltd served by Tandur station was commissioned w.e.f 17-10-2014. Open for handling outward Cement and inward Coal, Gypsum, Slag, Bauxite and Iron Ore. The siding is not opened for charging freight on through distance basis, since the siding is not electrified. Commercial circular no.175 of 2014.

Repeatability test on Electronic - in - motion weigh bridges:

Repeatability test on Electronic-in-motion weigh bridge was done at :

MAGH(Depot) on 14-09-2015, MICT/TDU on 04-09-2015, SPSG/SYI on 27-09-2015 and MGCG/GDCR on 28-09-2015.

Flagging off new Train:

A new Rail li8ne between Khanapur and Humnabad was commissioned by Hon'ble Mr. Shri Mallikarjun Kharge in presence of the other dignitaries and Railway officers on 30-12-2013.

Opening of New Rail line:

A new rail line between Khanapur and Humnabad was commissioned by Hon'ble MR Shri Mallikarjun Kharge in presence of the other dignitaries and railway officers on 30-12-2013.

Conducting of DRUCC:

156th DRUCC meeting was help on 30-12-2013 at DRM conference hall. Out of the total 29 members, 20 members were present during the meeting and discussed various matters related to passenger grievances.

This is the 3rd meeting conducted for the term 01-02-2013 to 28-02-2015.

Special action: 

Free catering arrangements has been arranged for 350 passengers travelling by T.No.16594 (SBC-NED) on 28-12-2013 at TDU which was effected at Kottacheruvu railway station due to fire accident, in co-ordination with Marvadi Yuva Manch Organisation / TDU.


Leasing of Parcel space:

During this month, 01 VPH and 23 SLRs have been awarded for a period of five years at an annual revenue of Rs. 0.49 crores.

Cleanliness :

During this month, cleanliness inspections conducted by the inspectors /Supervisors and an amount of Rs : 4,15,500/- lakhs was realized in the form of penalty against 2554 cases.


During this month, the number of catering inspections done by officers and inspectors is 72 . An amount of Rs 2.93 lakhs were realized in the form of penalties.

Passenger operated Baggage Trolley:

Contract for Provision of Passenger operated Baggage Trolley at SC station on PF 1 & 10 was awarded for a period of 1 year.

Ticket checking:

During the month, Ticket checking earnings are Rs. 2.55 crores as against Rs. 3.00 crores during the corresponding month of the previous year registering an increase of 15%.

During the Current financial year up to this month, Ticket Checking earnings are Rs. 2.55 Crores as against Rs. 3.14 Crores during the corresponding period of the previous year registering an decrease 18.79 %.


During the month, complaints recorded through SMS were 32 as against 49 complaints registering a decrease of 35% when compared with corresponding period of the last year. 

Complaints recorded in the complaints/suggestion books, 30 as against 21 complaints registering an increase of 43% when compared with corresponding period of previous year. 

Two employees were taken up under D&AR for inviting complaints.
