Indian Railways has always been in the forefront and committed towards providing best services to the passengers. In this direction a new initiative known as “Janani Sewa” has been introduced on 9th June, 2016 to provide hot milk, hot water and baby food items at important stations and children’s menu items on trains.
Janani Sewa was prompted by an incident that occurred recently where a mother and child suffered due to non availability of baby food and milk while travelling in a long distance train. The mother complained about her problem on a social networking site of Indian Railways expressing miseries due to non availability of infant food like milk on the trains. Taking note of her problem, Hon’ble Minister of Railways responded quickly and instantly arranged to serve hot milk to her baby at the next station itself.
Taking a cue from this incident, Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways in his Budget Speech-2016-17 announced a policy initiative and stated as “We would like to mitigate the hardships that mothers undergo while travelling with their infants and for this purpose, we will pilot availability of children’s menu items on trains. Further foods, hot milk and hot water would be made available on stations and changing boards for babies would be provided in train toilets”.
In tune with this policy, South Central Railway also introduced Janani Sewa outlets from 9th June 2016. Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, SCR took special interest to ensure availability of Janani Sewa services extensively at all major Railway Stations and on board of important long distance trains of South Central Railway.
