Kacheguda Railway Station - A Blend of Heritage and Class


Kacheguda Railway station is a historic and the most beautiful station building amongst the major railway terminals in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The Station is not just a monument of heritage but has went o­n to take giant strides in terms of going modern with its passenger facilities and amenities.

Built in 1916 as the headquarters of the Nizam’s Guaranteed State Railways, this magnificent icon of Railways conveying the architectural grace of the Indian and Gothic styles has crossed 100 glorious years of service and has reinvented itself to give the best experience to thousands of rail users each day by its cleanliness and beautification standards. This INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) awarded station has earned new grace in the last o­ne year with a complete makeover of its precincts which showcase fine art comprising of Cheriyal, keeping alive the tradition and culture of Telangana for passengers who come from all over the country to experience. 

South Central Railway has taken several initiatives to develop Kacheguda Railway Station across every sphere including in terms of passenger amenities, facilities, green initiatives etc., particularly in the last 4 years. Kacheguda Railway Station is identified as first of its kind Railway Station o­n Indian Railways by introducing DigiPay for Rail customers to transact any need o­n the Digital Payment gateway with the use of Debit / Credit Cards, Mobile Paperless Ticketing and Payment through Digital Wallets. Point of Sale (PoS) Machines have been put up at different cash transaction points including at Ticket Counters, Parcel Office, Cloak Room, Food Court, Parking Stand, Retiring Rooms, Pre-paid AC Waiting Hall, Tea Stalls, Fruit and Juice Centers, Catering Units, Book Stall, Dairy Parlour etc.

The amenities and facilities available at Kacheguda Railways Station are -

ØLifts & Escalators o­n all platforms

ØProvision of complete cover over sheds on all platforms.

ØRenovated Retiring Rooms at affordable price

ØElectronic Train Information & Coach Guidance Boards at the entrance, Platforms & Foot Over Bridges.

ØElectronic Reservation Chart Display System & Touch Screen Passenger Operated Enquiry Terminus (POET) in Passenger Reservation System complex.

ØAutomatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), 2 Coin operated Ticket Vending Machines (CTVMs) are provided to reduce long queues at Booking Counters.

Ø‘NavRaS’ App, for facilitating navigation to various passenger facilities o­n Platforms of Kacheguda station.

Ø‘Rail Station Info’ App to provide complete information about various passenger amenities available at Kacheguda.

ØLounge for short duration stay.

In addition, the station holds -

ØApp based Cab facility (Call/Radio Taxi) awarded to M/s OLA Cabs

ØPre-paid Auto Booth.

ØMobile Movie Theatre to exhibit films and educational programs.

ØIn tune with its status, Kacheguda has got the o­ne of its kind exclusive Rail Museum exhibiting the heritage old railway equipments

Kacheguda Railway Station an Eco Friendly mode -

·As part of green initiatives, Bio Toilets / Green Toilets are provided o­n the platforms separately for ladies and gents. These bio toilets are helpful in maintaining clean and hygienic environment, avoiding foul odor etc.

·Disposable Water Bottle Crushing Machines have been provided at Kacheguda station to prevent reuse of plastic disposable water bottles, thereby contributing to healthy environment.

·Waste recycling plant/ Decomposing machine is located at Kacheguda and every day Bio waste is collected from residential quarters , all platforms and offices in a separate green dust bin and segregation is done by sanitation workers. The machine will process the garbage and produces high quality organic manure which is used for gardens/plants.

·In addition, Sanitary Napkin incinerators are provided along with Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines in Ladies waiting halls at the station.

·Kacheguda station has been converted as Energy Efficient Railway Station by installing 400 KwP solar panels at Kacheguda Railway station. All CFL lights have been replaced with 100% LED Light. Super energy efficient ceiling fans & super energy efficient Inverter type Air Conditioners are provided. All electrical gadgets are Star rated.

oAnticipated savings per year due to efficient energy management at Kacheguda is to the extent of 6.5 Lakh Energy Units, accruing a saving of around Rs. 0.50 Cr and contributing in 606 tonnes of CO2reduction per year.

·Water recycling plant / sewage treatment plant is established at Kacheguda station yields 3.5 lakh liters per day. Water thus extracted from the recycling plant, is used for cleaning of concrete apron of all platforms & pit lines, cleaning of exterior part of coaches, watering gardens etc. 20% of the consumption is water consumption is served by the recycling plant, thus saving of around Rs 60,000 per day.

·Thus, Kacheguda has emerged as environmental friendly station contributing its part to greener environment by innovatively adopting Green initiatives, Energy Conservation and Water conservation measures.

·Modern Mechanized Laundry was set up at Kacheguda Railway Station at a cost of Rs.10.50 Cr for supply of clean linen to rail users. This Mechanized Laundry has the capacity of washing 24000 bed sheets, 12,000 face towels and 12,000 pillow covers per day.
