South Central Railway bags Six National Energy Conservation Awards


South Central Railway has bagged 6 National Energy Conservation Awards from Bureau of Energy Efficiency/Ministry of Power. Smt.Sumitra Mahajan, Hon’ble Speaker, Loksabha presented the prestigious first prize to Passenger Reservation System Office Complex to Shri A.A.Phadke, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer and Shri Amit Varadan, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad today i.e., 14th December, 2018 at a function held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The Other awards are “Certificate of Merit” to RailNilayam/Secunderabad, Hyderabad Bhavan (DRM office/HYB) in Office buildings underState PWD, CPWD & PHED sector and to Hyderabad Railway station, Kazipet Railway station & Nizamabad Railway station in Railway stations sector.

These awards are in recognition of its achievements in the area of energy conservation.The important factor for determining the energy efficiency is Specific Energy Consumption.The reduction in Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) achieved for the above units is as follows:

ØEnergy efficient Inverter Type star rated& Precision AC units

ØHVAC control & Temperature monitoring

ØSwitching off AC units during idling hours

ØEnergy savers and occupancy sensors

ØProvision of Natural day light pipes.

ØUse of solar energy for water heating & electricity generation.

ØTimers for water coolers/rolling examination lights.

 

ØOptimization of lifts and Provision of VVVF drives for lifts

ØBifurcation of fan circuits at platforms to switch off 70% fans during non train period.

ØProvision of Nature switch for street lights o­n Platform.

ØUse of Energy Efficient Pumps

ØUse of star labeled electrical equipments

ØProvision of Electronic fan regulators in place of Conventional fan regulators

ØEnergy Auditing & implementation of its recommendations.
