South Central Railway is marching ahead with its developmental agenda towards infrastructure development. In the last four years Infrastructure works related to new lines, doubling, tripling and electrification have seen a three fold increase, said Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, South Central Railway at a informal interaction held with Media persons today i.e., 20th June, 2018 at SCR Headquarters, Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad on the side lights of the inauguration of the renovated Public Relations Office.
Sharing his vision towards meeting the priority areas envisaged by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, the General Manager Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav stated that safety is the first priority for the Railway. Although, this has its impact on punctuality to some extent, SCR is focused to maintain a fine balance between Safety and Punctuality so that both the core areas of passenger satisfaction are attained. This requirement is on account of the fact that the track maintanance and infrastructure development works result in blocking traffic in identified sections for a minimum of three hours which has a cascading effect on train punctuality. To over come this, blocks are being scientificaly planned, mega blocks being undertaken to complete various works at one go, blocks are scheduled in non-peak hours and days etc. In fact, the track maintanance works have ensured that cases of rail breakage, weld failures etc., are coming down drastically. The track infra works planned, include laying of new rail lines to the extent of 300 kms during the current fiscal. With regard to elimination of Unmanned Level Crossings, the target is to eliminate the remaining 132 during the current year, out of which 60 have already been eliminated and the balance will be completed by September, 2018.
In terms of punctuality, although a 75 % average has been maintained in the face of infrastructure / maintanance works, the motivation from the rail minister to SCRs officers and staff a few days back, led to a significant rise in puntuality to 85 % in a single day. The issues concerning train delays between 0-30 mnts, 30 mnts-2 hrs and beyond 2 hours have been analysed and steps taken to over come the same. The target is to attain 90% punctuality in a months time.
Speaking on rail developmental issues concerning Hyderabad city, the General Manager said that Cherlapalli is being developed as a new terminal, as announced by Hon’ble Minister of Railways. The work will start in 2-3 months and completed in around 3 years time. In case of a new terminal at Nagulapalli, the plan is for a mega terminal which needs around 300 acres of land, he stated.
Shri M. Umashankar Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer, SCR welcomed the Media Personnel.
